DJ Daniel Skulnick Exclusive Interview for EDMDroid Asia

1. Please tell us and our readers more about the nightlife in The Philippines right now in times of Covid.

I’ve actually been pretty lucky as I’ve been playing quite a lot in one particular place. The rest of the Philippines is really suffering. I’ve only managed to play a handful of gigs outside of my resident position in the last two years.

2. How long have you been DJing and what can we expect next from DJ Daniel Skulnick?

I played my first gig when I was 16. That puts me at 30 amazing years now. I’m always looking at ways on how I can deliver a stronger performance. I will be experimenting this year with all sorts of different things to enhance it even further. I am looking at adding all sorts of musicians to my live sets. I’ve also been working hard on my first record.

3. What has been your best and your worst gig experience so far. Be honest please, don't hold back.

Such a hard question as I have so many fond memories of gigs. The last two halloweens at Aqua Beach Club have been amazing. They put up pretty big prize money for costumes and it’s always such an unforgettable night as the costumes are so extreme. It always sets the tone for an amazing atmosphere as you have all sorts of creatures marauding around. The New Years White Party’s are also awesome as they go full out on pyro and fireworks. I’m very lucky and don’t have many bad gig experiences in my memory bank. I suppose the worst I have suffered is showing up at a club as the headliner and there are like 3 people on the dance floor.

4. If you had to choose, which profession would you be going with? DJ or something else?

I definitely would be a DJ. Nothing brings me more peace to me than uniting a dance floor. Wish I could it full time.

5. Top 3 tracks at the moment?

Horny (Original Mix) - Sak Noel & Salvi
Love Tonight' (David Guetta Remix) - SHOUSE
Drinkee (Vintage Culture & John Summit Remix) - SOFI TUKKER

6. With which intl. act would you love to collaborate and why?

Tiesto for sure. He is putting out some pure bangers lately. Love the journeys he takes people on. Pure atmosphere.

7. Are you keen on cooking up an exclusive mix for us and our readers ? (60min)

Yes for sure. I’m sending over a pure mains stage set for you all.

8. What are your work-related plans for 2022, your career and beyond?

I’m praying that the pandemic comes to an end and we will all be able to start doing what we do best. Uniting dance floors and creating memories. I’ve been hard at work also on a small business that I plan to launch soon.

9. Please provide us some insights about how The Philippines market is like for foreign talents and overall perception of expat resident DJs?

When I first started I was known only as a house DJ. I had to make some changes to become an open format DJ. All the Filipino DJs were extremely helpful to me during this transition. I would say in general they are very good people. You don’t get much jealously or politics like you do in most other countries.
