DJ Marc Marasigan Exclusive Interview for EDMDroid Asia

1. Please tell us and our readers more about the nightlife in the Philippines and most of all in your hometown Manila right now in times of Covid.

Philippine nightlife continues to struggle in this pandemic and most venues are still not open for business, especially in Manila. I hope that this situation improves very soon so that our artists, club owners, event organizers and promoters are able to recover and rise again.

2. How long have you been DJing/Producing and what can we expect next from DJ Marc Marasigan?

I've been DJing professionally since 2008 (bedroom DJ since 1996) and it's been an amazing journey so far. I'm more focused on music production lately and expect more original releases and collaborations with other producers in the near future.

3. What has been your best and your worst gig experience so far. Be honest please, don't hold back.

I have a lot of "best" gigs that will always have a place in my heart: 7107 International Music Festival (2014) headlined by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Empire of the Sun and Kendrick Lamar, Balicinta Music Fest (2014) in Bali, Indonesia, Neverland x Raveolution (2016) where I met Galantis, Kura, Firebeatz and Dannic, Road to Ultra Philippines (2017) and the Zedd Club Tour (2018). Worst gig would probably be Waterval in Iligan City, Philippines where we were treated horribly by the event organizer. Never again.

4. If you had to choose, which profession would you be going with? DJ or something else?

I juggle many jobs simultaneously: Lawyer, DJ and business owner. :)

5. Top 3 tracks at the moment?

Nobody Compares To You by Gryffin, Katie Pearlman
Sweet Mistake by KAAZE
Until You Were Gone by Tritonal

6. With which intl. act would you love to collaborate and why?

I would love to collaborate with Gryffin and Don Diablo because their sound is so unique and I believe that they represent the new sound of electronic dance music.

7. Are you keen on cooking up an exclusive mix for us and our readers ? (60min)

Yes. I will send it soonest.

8. Any new music releases lately?

Early this year, I released a remix of DJ Loonyo's "Teka Muna" together with Ronthug (available on Spotify and apple Music) and most recently, I released a future rave collaboration track with GAVRIO entitled "Find a Light" under Sora Music Group and Warner Music Philippines (available on Spotify and Apple Music).

9. What are your work-related plans for 2021, your career and beyond?

I would like to hone my music production skills and allot more time to my original compositions. Music will always be a part of my life even after I "retire" from DJing per se.

10. Congratulations for making Asia's Top 25 DJs list. Please tell us how you feel and what were the reactions from peers and fans?

It is both a proud and humbling experience for me. I've never been a fan of "popularity contests" but it's still amazing to know that people actually voted for me and believe that I am one of the best in the industry but it also made me realize how much more important it is for me to remain grounded and strive to be better.

11. You have been voted the Philippines's #1 male DJ of 2020, how does it feel to be dubbed that way, chipping away the title from others who claimed to be #1 for many years?

I don't see it as "chipping away the title" from anyone but rather a recognition that I could be as good as the ones who have previously won the award. I don't really see myself competing with anyone and I've always maintained that my biggest competition is myself. So long as I'm getting better that the DJ/Producer that I was yesterday then I am happy.
