BLACK COFFEE and RÜFÜS DU SOL win big at 64th Annual Grammy Awards

Both artists ended the night by taking home the first gilded gramophone of their career.

Over the weekend, the 64th annual Grammy Awards honored music’s best-in-class across over 80 unique categories.

Electronic music was well represented, with South Africa’s Black Coffee and Australian electronic outfit RÜFÜS DU SOL taking home the genre’s top honors. The former’s stunning Subconsciously album took home the gilded gramophone in the competitive Best Dance/Electronic Music Album category, which also included ILLENIUM, Marshmello, Ten City, Sylvan Esso, and Major Lazer.

“I want to thank God for the gift of music and being able to share it with the world and heal some souls,” Coffee said in his acceptance speech. He additionally extended his appreciation to his fellow collaborators, including David Guetta, for putting their trust in his abilities.

Meanwhile, RÜFÜS DU SOL‘s “Alive” bested accomplished singles from Tiësto, James Blake, Afrojack and David Guetta, and more in the Best Dance/Electronic Recording category. This marked the trio’s third nomination and their first victory.

n their post-acceptance interview, RÜFÜS DU SOL mentioned that they’d written the song prior to the onset of the pandemic, and even then, they felt especially connected to it on an emotional level. In the years since, however, they’ve only continued to observe that the song is resonating more strongly with their rapidly growing audience.
